Sitemap Generator Plug-in

Apparently there is a quasi-standard that Google, Yahoo, Ask.com et. al. have agreed on w/r/t blogs, indexing new content, and the good ol’ fashioned robots.txt file.

A plug-in for WordPress automatically generates a new sitemap, archives the old, and alerts all of the above search engines (plus a few others) all as part of the regular functioning of WordPress. Slick.

  1. The install went quite smoothly. Still TBD as part of this plug-in’s configuration is to get a Yahoo ID and enter it in the configuration screen, and definitely introduce this site to the Google Webmaster tools. Gonna get on that right now.

  2. For whatever reason, upon adding jetmissile.com to Google Webmaster Tools I was told by Google that it didn’t have a sitemap associated w/jetmissile.com. This was after the plug-in mentioned above claimed that this was already done. I’m going to guess that either a) there is some lag as the Google data network is vast, or b) there may be a difference as far as the Webmaster Tools are concerned between a sitemap submitted thru that interface versus one that comes in thru the plug-in.

Worth looking at again down the road.
